President's Message
February 2013

Welcome to 2013, I hope that you had a happy and enjoyable start to the year

Since becoming your President I have also been very busy with the Blue Ribbon Foundation in respect to the release of the 2012 Constable T. Bear; new uniform.

On the 20 November 2012, accompanied by Ossie MUIR I attended the Bairnsdale Retirees and Police Widows Christmas Lunch. Caught up with the Dux of my squad, Bob HALDANE APM. Great day was had by all and another great job by ian (Salty) Gilmore.

On 23 November 2012 i attended the Dedication of the new PSO Training Facility which resembles a railway station at the Academy. It was dedicated in memory of Senior Constable Norm CURZON who was murdered on the steps of Flinders Street Station on 8 January 1974. The Dedication was attended by his family, relatives, friends and former colleagues.

Over 80 persons attended our Annual Christmas Lunch at the Mulgrave Club. A 3 course smorgasbord meal was provided and I have received numerous favourable comments. It was an enjoyable afternoon full of laughter and fun. During the lunch i was priviledged to present Arthur ROBERTS RFD ED J with his Life Membership Certificate and also presented Neil LEWIS with a plaque in recognition of his service on the RPA Committee.

Many of you have read the Editorial and article in the Herald Sun, 3 November 2012 in relation to retired police assisting at major events, demonstrations and disasters. I have spoken to Chief Commissioner LAY, APM regarding this proposal and at this timme it is still pending legislative details. I will let you know more when I know more.

I have also attended the funerals of Charlkie BLANKS, Bob ARMSTRONG and Bill CALVERT VA.

With the current wildfire season well and truly here, my thoughts are with our former colleagues, fireys and other Services who are doing their utmost to serve and protect their communities throughout Australia.

To our members living in designated bushfire areas I hope that yopu, your families and friends remain safe.

.By the time you receive this Gazette the financial report for 2011-2012 has been completed and submitted. I must thank Phil PARSON, Greg GREENWOOD (who came on the board in September and had a lot of catching up to do) and Gita BRAYBROOK for the hard work they have put in tocomplete same. WELL DONE!!!

May the roads that you travel always be smooth and safe.

Ken (KD) Dunlop APM
President
